Pool Session
Vasho was very afraid of going under the water so we did lots of water confidence, getting him to relax and doing activities under his boat. Annalise loved being in the pool, progressed to hip flicks and holding paddle.
Flatwater, Lake Wanaka
Did some work on paddle strokes and carving, but mainly focused on getting them confident in the water. Annelise was fine in the pool, but very reluctant in the river. So practised barrel rolls and T rescues, go them both to swim.
River Run, Clutha, Lake to Camp
Again, practised going under on the flat sections, catching eddies, and mother ducked down the rapids.
21/3
| First Years loading up the boats |
Preparing them for the Grade 2 river run in the afternoon.
River Run, Hawea, Dam to Bridge
Mother Ducked and signals down rapids, caught easy eddies. Vasho took T rescues everywhere he could, Annelise needed lots of encouragement. But they both went better than they expected.
Pool Session
Both progressing well, going half over. More water confidence for both.
22/3
River Run, Hawea, Dam to Bridge then Bridge to Slalom Site
Big run for them, both did really well. Vasho looking classy as, carving really nicely. Really pushing himself with the rescues, but hadn't yet gone over involuntarily. Annelise quite scared, really needed to be pushed, found that distracting her with riddles really helped.
Pool Session
Both rolling with just a little help on the back of the boat.
23/3
Pool Session
Vasho got his roll and once he got he he had it everytime. Gave him a few beat downs (not rolling, just for confidence). Annelise very very close, got a few rolls, its just combining everything.
River Run, Hawea, Bridge to Slalom Site
Got Vasho rolling on the River :), Annelise also got a roll, then failed lots but shes stayed in for the T which was great! And she even said she enjoyed the last few rapids.
