OPC Spring Training

Day One

Instructor: Kieran McKay, Simon O'Donnel
Group: Me, Nic, Tim, Pip, Sezz, Hugo, Prajot, Boyd

Spent the morning in the Mangatepopo, upstream of the Gorge, Dingle Creek to Dangerous Bridge. Worked on river travel, confidence in the water and different methods of getting students across and ways that they can help each other. Avo in the Okupata cave, exploring some other passages and expanding on our knowledge.

Day Two

Instructor: Kieran McKay, Simon O'Donnel
Group: Me, Nic, Tim, Pip, Sezz, Hugo, Prajot, Boyd

Discusion on why we need trips like the Meads wall traverse. Then spent the rest of the day working on skills needed to rig it and run it. In the evening, Nic did a weather presentation for his weather competency and Kieran ran en environmental session focused around the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Day Three

Instructor: Kieran McKay, Boyd McManus
Group: Me, Nic, Tim, Pip, Sezz, Hugo, Prajot

Geological session with Kieran in the morning, learning about the geological history of the area. Then went over hands free systems for abseils and lowers.

Facilitation session with Boyd in the afternoon. Went through the Head Hand Heart model, a leadership model for what sort of leader you are, Sezz did a cool game called "breaking out' and then we ended with an initiative game called Keypad with Boyd.
